Mustelid Manor Memoirs

"Having an aura of menace is like having a pet weasel, because you rarely meet someone who has one, and when you do it makes you want to hide under the coffee table." ~Lemony Snicket~ (from The Slippery Slope)

Setting the Records Straight

This is our site to tell it like it really is. In case you stupid humans do not know, weasels have traditionally represented silent observation and exposing truths. Rather noble, in our opinion. We are tired of the bad rap we get. Webster's defined weasel as "an agile, flesh-eating mammal, with a long, slender body and short legs;" or the humans' twisted definition, "to be evasive or deliberately misleading." Yahooligans described us as "slim little predators...if any animal can be called bloodthirsty, the weasel may qualify because it kills its victim by biting into the base of the head and drinking the blood. Weasels often kill far more than they can eat. If they manage to gain entry to a hen house or pigeon coop, they go wild..."

Even ferret is somewhat derogatory: "a weasellike animal, tamed for hunting rats, etc; to force out of hiding with a ferret; to search." Ferret is Latin for fur, thief--we resent that (or is it resemble that?). It was not so long ago that we remember encyclopedias defining us as vicious, untameable animals. And in how many states and cities are we still illegal?! California, Hawaii, Washington D.C., New York City... Humans need to wake up! We are more than just the chicken stealin' weasels you remember from the Bugs Bunny cartoons! We don't claim to be cuddly or anything--we are simply demanding your respect or we will bite your toes...
