R.I.P.
I have to say that today was a rough one. I adopted Cinnamon on 06/07/06 and never expected to develop the bond with her that I did. I have no idea how old she was when I got her, but she had already been through several owners by the time that I rescued her. Having her seven years was amazing and the joke always was that she would outlive us all, as crotchety and ornery as she was.
She was able to drift off in my arms and I was able to stroke her face as she crossed to the other side. I buried her next to Big Guy, and they will share their spot together through eternity. She went downhill so fast after losing him and between the two of them (he crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 31st), these past few months have been very difficult.
My fiancé made the comment, on the way home, that the perk to not owning pets is avoiding the days like today. Despite the ache each fur baby in my life has brought about with their passing; despite the now empty spot that each one uniquely filled--I wouldn't trade it. Cinnamon brought me seven years of laughter, love and silliness. Big Guy gave me six years of owning a fabulous ferret that filled my heart in a way that no other ferret ever has. It's worth the tears.
